Sustainability

At Gears and Grapes Getaways we are dedicated to sustainable practices in both the way we organize our trips as well as with the business that we support. When ever and where ever possible we choose businesses that are sustainable and green and wine makers that use less harmful practices, or practices that do not harm the environment or the workers. We believe that sustainable practices are not only better for the earth but they lend themselves to better wine. Through stewardship of unique and specific land as well as conservation of natural resources, wine growers are able to achieve incredible results. Sustainability in wine goes beyond the farming. It also includes the community of people working together in the winery. It reassures the health and well-being of farm and winery employees and neighbors through minimizing their exposure to toxic materials. At Gears and Grapes Getaways we strive to indulge ourselves as responsibly as possible.

Promoting cycling as a means of transportation and a means of vacation is another way in which we strive to make the planet a more sustainable place. We encourage the use of bikes on an everyday level, whether it be your commute to work or your exercise after work.

We have selected products and companies that use renewable resources in their designs or in their businesses. These companies address current environmental concerns. The food served at the restaurants we dine in is seasonal local and organic, cutting back on both the fossil fuels used to transport the food, and decreasing the impact made on the environment by harmful chemicals, and pesticides. This also minimizes the materials and waste generated by packaging and processing. The food served is therefore fresh, flavorful and seasonal.

When possible, the hotels that we stay at are also sustainable businesses. Some of these hotels use solar panels to help reduce the overall energy consumption and CO2 emissions. The bath amenities are hand-made locally and the floors are made from natural fiber and recycled materials. The landscapes are designed using local and native wildlife to minimize irrigation requirements. These hotels offer luxury while simultaneously doing their part to protect and maintain our planet.
